Sparsely distributed, uncommon resident. Larva feeds on Birch (Betula) in July and again from September to November, creating distinctive linear galleries. Mines are long and contorted with dark frass throughout with narrow clear, frass-free margins. There are often multiple mines on a single leaf.
Adults are difficult to distinguish from other species in this family.
