Species Account

By far the most common migrant Hawk-moth in the UK, this species has been recorded across Kent with an obvious increase in records from the coast. This species has been recorded in just about every month of the year, but the peak arises from late May and wanes in late October. Regularly seen by non-mothers, this species cannot really be confused with any other British moth. Although not often seen at rest, when found like this it can confuse the uninitiated.

Record Verification

Grade 1 adults are generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species, but records outside documented range or flight period may require photos.
