  Information

There is a charge of £6 at the toll gate on Gilford Road so it is cheaper to park in Sandwich town and walk or cycle to the beach.

From the part-demolished Princes Golf Club House, walk north along the sand-dunes, parallel with the sea. On the right day, there will be masses of Common Blues, Small Heaths, Brown Argus, as well as Skippers, Meadow Browns, Small Coppers etc. Burnet moths and even a few Cream-Spot Tiger moths can be found and seen.

Lots will be nectaring on spiky, electric-blue Sea Holly, or on Sea Kale growing in the shingle, so creating a very different scene to chalk downland.

Key Species:

Common Blue, Small Heath , Brown Argus, Meadow Brown, Small Copper
