Please note that some field trips involve lengthy walks (albeit at a slow pace), possibly in hilly, rough or muddy places, and under all kinds of weather conditions, so please wear appropriate clothing and sensible footwear and it is advisable to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink in hot weather. The leader will inform you of any recognised hazards before setting off. Please inform the leader if any problems arise during the outing, or if you decide to leave early. If you are in any doubt about your ability to cope with the terrain, please check with the leader beforehand.
Denge Wood Events (DWE) indicates events in East Kent arranged by Fran Thompson, the Denge Woods Project Officer. All members are welcome but please note that booking is essential for the first event. It is suggested that you should bring a packed lunch if you want to join the picnic afterwards. 14:00 - 17:00 - An afternoon at Wye National Nature Reserve - learning about its beautiful butterflies, marvellous moths, how to make charcoal, watch horses extracting timber, enjoy a BBQ using Wye Community Farm sausages and charcoal and much more. A family-friendly event run jointly by ourselves, Natural England and Wye Community Farm. If you want to start the afternoon with a guided butterfly walk, meet at the top car park over the road from the restaurant at 2pm. Otherwise follow the nature trail (signed) at your own leisure down to the charcoal kiln, BBQ and activities.
